The mix accentuates the softness of alpaca and the wool contributes to the garments’ shape stability. Drops Andes belongs in Garnstudio yarn group E (YarnStandards Weight Category #6, Super Bulky) which is the same group as for Eskimo. Andes is a 2-ply yarn, a yarn with two plies twisted together. Prices per gram for this quality will be the same favorable as Drops Lima and Nepal. Color range more than 25 colors.

    DROPS Andes Video Presentation (01:23)
DROPS Andes is spun from 2 strands in the traditional combination of 65% wool and 35% alpaca. The mixture brings out the alpaca silky surface, while the wool helps to have a better shape stability. The yarn fibers are untreated, which means that it is only washed and not exposed to any chemical treatment prior to the dyeing. This highlights the fiber's natural properties, while it also provides a better shape and texture quality. DROPS Andes contains some mixed colors, which means the wool is manufactured by carding the colors together before spinning, which gives it a mixed effect. DROPS Andes is very easy to work with thick needles and hooks, and it is ideal for felting. Made in Peru. Color card: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/us/yarn.php?id=97

    1. My new favourite yarn in the chunky division star rating

Beautiful soft chunky yarn. Knits up on a 10 mm needle quickly and with
nice stitch definition. Would buy it again.

    2. My Favorite Chunky Yarn! star rating

I absolutely LOVE this perfect blend of alpaca and wool! It is the ideal yarn for an cabled project, as it is soft, cushy, yet your cables will have perfect definition. It is also less expensive than most good quality 100 % wool, for all the softness of alpaca. I will add several colors to my stash during this sale, as I did during the last. I only wish it came in variegated color ways!

    3. Perfectly Blended Fibers for Perfectly Defined Cables star rating

Posted by Stephanie King on 1st Nov 2014

This is wonderful, soft yarn that is perfect for cables! Just the right amount of wool and alpaca gives it the best of both fibers, so I would highly recommend Andes yarn for any chunky pattern. There is no other yarn that compares at this price!
